Gauteng High Court Backs Gun Owners in Amnesty

11 November 2020 – For immediate release

SafeCitizen has received notice of a successful application by MJ Hood & Associates Attorneys, in the Gauteng High Court against the National Commissioner of the South African Police Services and others in connection with firearms handed in by the public during the current firearms amnesty.

In brief, the Court has ordered the Police to receive and process amnesty applications from any person who physically surrenders a firearm at a police station within the validity period of the current amnesty, whether or not the person surrendering the firearm is the owner of that firearm, and further ordered that the police shall receive and process new licence applications for such firearms surrendered.

This is good news for persons who were being denied the opportunity to make use of the amnesty under certain conditions. Well done to Martin Hood.
